Summer will be here before we know it, and if you love Barbados, you won’t want to miss the famous Crop Over Festival. The Crop Over Festival is held every year – for 2012 it begins on Saturday, July 2nd. It’s easy to see why the Crop Festival is known as “The Sweetest Summer Festival” by those who have known and loved this festival over the years. If you haven’t been to the festival, make this the year you choose to attend!

The Crop Over Festival celebrates the sugar cane crop, Barbados was once well known for producing a fine sugar cane crop. When the sugar cane crop was ready to be harvested, this was certainly a time to celebrate. The Crop Over Festival is a week-long event of celebration and fun that all of Barbados participates in and enjoys. You won’t want to miss a moment of the fun. Enjoy delicious, regional Barbados delicacies and popular dishes. Watch great dance and singing performances, including spoken word artists. This year’s Crop Over Festival has a new style, a fresh and innovative style that has been appreciated since 2009.

There’s something for everyone at the Crop Over Festival. It is the perfect festival for singles, couples or families who want to enjoy all that Barbados has to offer. The Crop Over Festival has events and fun that take place both day and night. It is easy to do fun things with the children during the day and then dance into the evening with your spouse and friends.

A popular attraction at the Crop Over Festivals has been the Folk and Gospel Concerts, which feature internationally known performers. If you love both folk and gospel music, then you’ll want to be sure to attend the concerts. The Gospel concerts this year take place on July 19th and 20th and the Folk concerts will end on July 26th. If you love music, the Crop Over Festival is the place to be, as you’ll find not only folk and gospel music, but also jazz and calypso music as well, quite popular in Barbados.

Probably the biggest challenge with the Crop Over Festival is trying to see “everything.” There is actually so much to do and enjoy, it is probably difficult to do it all in a single visit to the Crop Festival. We suggest you look at the Calendar of Events at www.Barbadoscropoverfestival.com. There you’ll find all the fun events you can enjoy at the Crop Over Festival and you can choose your favorites. Now, it may be hard to just choose a few in a day, but remember that the Crop Over Festival is held every year – and that you can return next year to enjoy the Crop Over Festival once more.
